吸収口で植物の樹液を吸う害虫の一種。種類がいろいろある。若い茎葉につきやすく、ウイルス病も媒介するので注意が必要。初期の防除が大切。

園芸家にとってもっともやっかいな害虫の一つ。それ自身樹液を吸うだけでなく、モザイク病などの病原菌の運び屋。

ヤマボウシ
Japanese dogwood

ハナミズキとヤマボウシは春に開花する木です。とても似た花をつけますが、いくつかの見分けるポイントがあります。ハナミズキはヤマボウシよりも早い時期に咲き、丸い花びらの先に小さなへこみがあります。ヤマボウシの花も丸いかたちをしていますが、先端が尖っています。ハナミズキは小さな赤い実をつけ、ヤマボウシはそれよりも大きいオレンジの実をつけます。

Dogwood and Japanese dogwood both bloom in spring. Their flowers can look pretty similar, but there are some key differences. Dogwood flowers show up earlier than the Japanese variety. The petals on the dogwood are round with a little notch, while the Japanese dogwood petals are also round but pointy at the tip. Dogwoods produce small red fruit, and Japanese dogwoods have larger orange fruits.
